Why Kuchh Kuchh Hota Hai Confuses And Annoys Me

If you ask me how many times I have seen Kuchh Kuchh Hota Hai? My answer would probably be around 30, if not more. I watch it once every year, ever since I first saw it in the year 2000, sometimes even twice. This is how much I love watching this film.

Why Kuchh Kuchh Hota Hai Confuses And Annoys Me

But no matter how much I love it there are certain things that still confuse me so much.  These are some of the things that left me scratching my head in confusion.

    Anjali Khanna, the born genius

Why Kuchh Kuchh Hota Hai Confuses And Annoys Me

Five minutes in, and we find out that Anjali loves reading the eight letters her mother wrote for her first eight birthdays. I mean what? I could barely start reading at the age of five and let alone the letters. Also, how does an eight-year-old understand things like true love, heartbreak, or re-uniting old lovers? We’re in second or third standard at this age and learning how to spell words like “sunshine” “friendship” etc. Then the eight-year-old child goes on a quest to reunite his father with his friend/love? The fact that she wrote a letter for Anjali Khanna starting from her first birthday onwards, Tina probably knew she was giving birth to an insanely smart child (not).

Love is friendship and without friendship, there can be no love

Why Kuchh Kuchh Hota Hai Confuses And Annoys Me

I think Karan Johar believed in this wholeheartedly but forgot about it during the movie. If love is friendship why did Rahul fall for the only hottest girl that walked in the St. Xavier’s College? It should have been Anjali, no? Playboy falling for a dorky, tomboy would have been equally cute. But that did not happen. I am sorry to burst your happy bubble, but let’s just be honest, had Tina been alive Rahul wouldn’t have even bothered looking for Anjali (not that he did before meeting her at the camp) nor he would have fallen in love with the updated version of Anjali. Oh, and no matter how guilty Tina felt for coming in between, she would have stayed in his life just like before she died.

    Anjali Sharma was stupid

Why Kuchh Kuchh Hota Hai Confuses And Annoys Me

Let’s just all agree that Anjali had always been stupid. But I think love does that to the brain cells. First, she didn’t move on for eight years because of Rahul whereas he had gone from being married to a widower with a child in those years. Which is alright, you can take your own sweet time to move on. But when she finally, had Aman Mehra who loved her unconditionally. The way everyone deserves to be loved, she left him for Rahul. Why would you settle for someone who kept you as an option, looked at you only after you had started behaving like a lady? But are ready to leave the man who looks at you like you’re the brightest star in the sky, has no condition for loving you, and allows you to walk away from the altar without any fuss because your happiness is his priority. That is love, but Anjali Sharma is stupid, so.

These were some of the things that continued to confuse and annoy me throughout these years. But, all said and done even if this movie is coming up on a channel today I’ll stop browsing and settle for it any day. I still love watching this movie and am in no mood of giving up this habit any time soon.

P.s. My dear folks don't be like Anjali Sharma in real life be wise, because reality ain't that sweet.
