Amidst all the high-voltage drama, tears, screaming, shouting, name-calling and fighting, we often forget the real purpose of reality shows. Apart from providing twisted entertainment, reality shows are also a platform to find talented individuals from every part of the country and bring a new pool of talent in the entertainment industry.
While the popularity and TRP of reality shows are mostly measured by controversies, we tried to rank the reality TV shows on the basis of actually talented people they have brought into the industry.

While Aditi has worked with Bollywood biggies like Subhash Ghai and Ranveer Singh, but people like Divyanka Tripathi is ruling the TV world.
Indian Idol-10
One of the most popular Indian reality shows of all times, Indian Idol was nothing short of historic in terms of popularity when it premiered in October 2004. The audience vote literally went up in crores and the contestants were already some sort of superstars. The show is responsible for introducing us to singing talents like Monali Thakur, Bhavya Pandit, Abhijeet Sawant and many more. Interestingly, despite being a singing reality show , Indian Idol also gave us actors like Amit Tandon and Meiyang Chang.
Roadies- 9
Back in early 2004, when the word swag was not even coined, Roadies defined all that we call swag today. The adventure based reality show was a hit among the youngsters. Apart from being a super hit reality show, it was also a platform to showcase many skills and talents which ultimately came handy for many youngsters who were looking for something to break into the entertainment. Some of the best success stories of Roadies are Rannvijay Singh, Ayushmann Khurana, Prince Narula, Ayaz Ahmed and Shambhavi who even went on to do Telugu films.
Sa Re Ga Ma Pa- 7
This was another singing reality show that beckoned all the hopeful aspirants who wished to make it big in the industry. Although contestants like Raja Hassan, Kamaal Khan have sung one or two songs here and there and people like Sniti Mishra has made it big in the independent genre, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’s contribution to the industry has been rather noteworthy. Superstar playback sinbger Shreya Ghoshal, music composer and actor Shekhar Ravijani and Pakistani singing sensation Amanat Ali, all of them owe a lot to the stage of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa.
DID- 6
The dancing reality show came at a time when singing reality shows were all the rage. However, DID broke into the scene and soon became an addiction to most fans of the show. Apart from superb dancing talents, we also felt one with the interesting back stories of the contestants. With contestants like Shakti Mohan who is one of India’s most noted dancers today, Binny Sharma who went on to play leads in TV shows like Sanjog Se Bani Sangini and Dharmesh, Punit, Raghav, Salman and Prince all appearing films, the show can boast of scouting some heavy duty talents for the industry.
Junoon-6
Not many would remember this show which came on NDTV Imagine, but devoid of any drama with its focus entirely on music , this was one of the best singing reality show ever. The show was judged by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Ila Arun and Anand Raaj Anand and was divided between singers representing sufi, folk and Bollywood as different. If you are fan of distinguished voices like Harshdeep Kaur who sang Dilbaro recently and many other superhit songs, Kavita Seth of Ik Tara fame, Antara Mitra of Janam Janam fame, Kalpana Patowary who sang songs like Gandi Baat, Sharib Sabri who gave music for Raaz 3 and Padma Shri award-winning folk singer Malini Awasthi, then you know which show to thank now for spotting these talents.
Splitsvilla-5
One of MTV’s boldest and most controversial shows, Splitsvilla was a show that was all about finding true love. While people rarely found soulmates in the show, many went on to find quick fame. But there are also some who were talented and intelligent enough to keep riding on this fame and make stable career out of it. Some of the Splistvilla contestant who went on to become popular faces on TV are Vishal Karwal of Bhagyavidhata, Mohit Malhotra who appeared in many serials, Pavitra Punia who did serials like Love U Zindagi.
Fame Gurukul- 2
This is one show that should go down in the history of epic fails. The winners of the show was Qazi Touqeer and Ruprekha Banerjee, while Qazi was last spotten in the song Afghan Jalebi, Ruprekha vanished without a trace. Funnily enough, one of Bollywood’s biggest and most successful singers ever, Arijit Singh was eliminated from the show in the fifth place. However apart from Arijit, Keerthi Sagathiya who has worked with A.R. Rahman and Ram Sampath in films like Raanjhnaa and Delhi Belly was also a contestant of the show who was eliminated long before the finals.
Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jayega- 1
No matter how ridiculous the format of the show looked, seeing twelve girls fighting over Rahul Mahajan surely made for good television. After a grueling journey, Kolkata’s Dimpy Ganguly was the one that Rahul chose to be his dulhaniya. While their marriage fell apart in five years, Dimpy became quite a popular face on television doing many special appearances in many superhit shows and even dabbled with acting in Kahaani Chandrankanta Ki. These days she is happily married to her school friend Rohit Roy and is the mother of a beautiful baby girl named Reanna.
Just Dance- 0
This dancing reality show was in news for getting Hrithik Roshan onboard as a judge. Even the talent pool in the show was of higher standards than most Indian reality show, but somehow in a very anti-climactic fashion it failed to yield even one talent that could sustain its popularity in the showbiz. Contestants like Ankan, who won the show, Mehr Malik and Rahul Pangali all enjoyed momentary fame but could not shape that fame into a solid career in the industry.
