OMG: Did Aamir Khan Make A Candid Confession About Himself In Secret Superstar & We Didn’t Notice?

OMG: Did Aamir Khan Make A Candid Confession About Himself In Secret Superstar & We Didn’t Notice?

It’s surprising how no one really spoke about it! How did we miss it? Aamir Khan metaphorically confessed a lot about his life and the complaints he's had with the industry in last year’s Secret Superstar . We didn’t even get he could be talking about the real him and not his character. Mr. Perfectionist was pretty ingenious in slipping the hints in. Confused?

The flamboyant, colorful, honest and obnoxious character of music director Shakti Kumar that Aamir Khan essayed in the movie had layers to itself. While we thought he was mostly there to raise a few laughs and lighten up the tension, Shakti was dealing with a lot himself. Under the surficial aura of the character that Aamir built, he did express a mini outburst of emotional complaints he has had with his family and the film industry. How?

OMG: Did Aamir Khan Make A Candid Confession About Himself In Secret Superstar & We Didn’t Notice?

Remember this pre-climax scene where he’s talking to Insia while sipping a soda? He mentions how his story (Shakti Kumar’s in this case) is pretty similar to hers. Here’s what he quotes – You know pichle 10 saalo mein, meri do biwiyon me mujhe chhod diya. Mere bhai ne hi mujhpe case thok diya. Matlab family toh hai hi nahi meri! Ye industry hi samjho meri mother sister family hai. Aur iss industry ne bhi aaj tak mujhe thoda sa bhi pyaar nahi diya. Saale har saal nominate karte hain lekin aajtak award nahi diya!”

You think we’re far-fetching it? Then let’s take a closer look at what he spoke. You know pichle 10 saalo mein, meri do biwiyon ne mujhe chhod diya. Aamir Khan was divorced in 2002 before he got married to Kiran Rao in 2005. While his personal life isn’t meant to be anybody’s business, we could argue he was possibly making a close reference to his real life.

Moving on – Mere bhai ne hi mujhpe case thok diya. Aamir’s brother Faisal Khan had filed an FIR against him for keeping him confined in his home citing his ill mental health. This can’t just be a co-incidence, can it?

Anyway, moving on further - Matlab family toh hai hi nahi meri! Ye industry hi samjho meri mother sister family hai. Aur iss industry ne bhi aaj tak mujhe thoda sa bhi pyaar nahi diya. We do know the love and fascination Aamir attaches to the Hindi Film Industry. His passion for story-telling and perfectionism draws a huge reference to the fact that he considers this industry his own family. But then again, we’re also aware how Aamir is much of an outcast entity in the showbiz. His sincere efforts to bring glory to the industry have mostly been overlooked.

And finally - Saale har saal nominate karte hain lekin aajtak award nahi diya. Aamir Khan has a total  of 19 Filmfare Best Actor nominations while he’s only been able to win 3. Before Dangal , he had 18 nominations with just two wins. Besides we already know he stopped attending any glittery award night since the mid-90s. Even after having been actively involved in nation-building causes and movies on social awareness, the National Award jury has also been pretty hostile to his contribution.

Anyway, we’ll keep our emotions in check and let you absorb this. If this doesn’t make for a symbolic outburst, then what really will? We recently caught this movie after its digital release. If you haven’t seen it, go for it!
