5 Reasons Why Judaai Will Remain A Milestone Film For Every Sridevi Fan!
It has been more than two decades that Judaai released The film released back in 1997 and even though the film had a very poor opening, it picked up very well after a good word of mouth. The film might be remembered for the epic trio of Anil-Sridevi-Urmila, but it has a lot more than that. In fact, this is a film that will always remain a milestone. Here are 5 reasons why:
1. Judaai is the last film that Sridevi did with Anil Kapoor
Anil-Sridevi had been one of the most sought after jodis of the time. They worked together in a number of films but Judaai is the last film that had this epic jodi working together on-screen.
2. Judaai is also the last film Sridevi did with Poonam Dhillon and the only film with Urmila Matondkar
It was a treat to see two of the best leading ladies together in a film. In fact, Juhi Chawla and Karisma were also considered for the film but they rejected it. This was also the last film Sridevi did with Poonam Dhillon, with whom she had worked on Karma, Himmat Aur Mehnat, Sone Pe Suhaaga and Pathar Ke Insan.
3. Judaai was the last film that Sridevi did before her sabbatical
After working in Judaai, Sridevi took a break from Bollywood. It was after 15 years that she made a comeback with English Vinglish.
4. Her daughter Janhvi Kapoor was named after a character in the film
Sridevi played the character of Kajal and Urmila played a character called Janhvi. It was after Urmila's character that Sridevi and Boney Kapoor named their daughter Janhvi.
5. Boney Kapoor did not sell the Hindi rights of the film only for Sridevi
The film is the remake of a 1994 Telugu film called Shubhalagnam. The film's rights were bought by Boney Kapoor because he wanted to cast Sridevi in it. In fact, Ramesh Taurani and Nitin Manmohan had asked him to sell the Hindi rights but he declined. It was also because of Boney's and dad Surinder's involvement that Anil Kapoor worked on it. He said he wouldn't have done the film had it not been produced by Surinder Kapoor because he felt that Raj's character was weak compared to the leading ladies!
