5 Times Bollywood Film Promotions Took A Rather Ugly Turn
The promotional strategies of any Bollywood film are one of the most integral parts of marketing campaigns of these films. Filmmakers and producers leave no stone unturned in order to make their film appeal to the moviegoers and often come up with innovative strategies for the film's promotion and marketing. Some of them even have tie-ups with other brands and organizations as well.
But controversy is lurking just around the corner for Bollywood films and very few films are able to release without causing much controversy. These days, people also have different mediums through which they protest against the films. But we have seen things taking an ugly turn during the film promotions. Here are 5 such instances:
Raees: Shah Rukh Khan's 2017 release had an innovative promotional campaign where the actor boarded a train from Mumbai to Delhi and would promote the film in selected cities where the train would stop. As he has following in hundreds of millions, the railway stations were overflowing with people and in Vadodara, his arrival caused a stampede where one person died.
Veere Di Wedding: The upcoming film starring Sonam Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor has been caught in controversies as well. A lot of people are criticising the film on social media for the abusive language the characters are using in the trailer while the actresses have come under fire for using the recent Kathua case as an excuse to promote the film.
Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum: The sex-comedy starring Tusshar Kapoor, Riteish Deshmukh, Neha Sharma and Sarah Jane Dias was already under controversy because of its content but during one promotional event of the film, Sarah Jane Dias was attacked with a stone by a protestor in Faridabad.
Padmaavat: The Sanjay Leela Bhansali starrer courted controversy since the moment it was announced and the protests against the film kept turning ugly. As the time of its release came nearer and the film's team was trying its best to promote the film, numerous groups, and fringe outfits announced a bounty over the Bhansali and Deepika Padukone.
Fanaa: The Aamir Khan starrer wasn't released in Gujarat as, during a promotional event for the film in Gujarat, Aamir Khan criticized the then Government's handling of Narmada Dam issue which caused a major uproar in the state.
