6 Friendship Cliches That Bollywood Won't Let Go And We Won't Accept
Whether it is Sholay, 3 Idiots, Dil Chahta Hai or Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara, Bollywood have given us many friendship goals over the years. But much like romance, Bollywood’s idea of friendship has also been much too idealistic and far from how friendships play out in real lives.
From drastically opposite personalities to always sticking to plans, these are some of the clichés that Bollywood abides by religiously when it comes to showing friendships but are so far removed from how thing play out in real lives that your friend will smack you on the head if you agree with any of them. Actually, anyone might!
P.S. We are not saying that all Bollywood movies are to be accused of these, but our conclusion is based on a painstaking research (#truestory!)that reveal a major chunk of Bollyood friendship stories engage in one or more of these clichés that we have listed out below.
Opposites Attract, Always
So we understand that opposite attracts but have Bollywood filmmakers never come across two friends who are similar to each other? I mean if one friend is fun and outgoing the other one without fail, has to be loner, if one is a daredevil the other one has to be a timid person or worse if one is a stud another one has to awkward with girls. Yes, we agree that seeing a friendship between chalk and cheese is exciting, but it’s the exception and not the norm as Bollywood would have you believe. Plus it has been done to death!
Romance v/s Friendship
Ah…the classic one. Somehow in the realm of Bollywood, romance and friendship can almost never co-exist in peace. Either two guys will fall for the same girl, or the friend will foresee the less than noble ideas of his/her buddy’s bae or romance will come in the way of a friendship (in most cases this would a girl coming between two guy friends). Dear Bollywood, in the real world we do hang out with our bae and friends together who really get along well.
Hate The Same Person, Always
Ok, this would be the ideal situation and to be honest the friendship is always deeper if you hate the same person, but let’s be real, how often does this happen? If it is in Bollywood, the answer is all the time. But in real life, it is not only inaccurate but also gives off a notion that a true friend is the one who always agrees with you.
Miraculously Mature When Tragedy Strikes
This is one of the funnier one. Friends in Bollywood, who would be making the same lame jokes as you and is totally capable of giving you a competition in being irresponsible, miraculously turns into a wise and enlightened sage right when the tragedy strikes. What is even the point of having a best friend character if the nuggets of wisdom are not delivered by him to the hero (heroines anyway rarely have a significant friendship track) #Bollywoodlogic
Rarely Have A Life Of Their Own
Have you ever noticed that how the best friend of heroes and sometimes even heroines have almost no life of their own? Their entire existence revolves around the friend because he or she is the main lead of the film, yes it is that simple. Getting them out of unsavory situations and fixing their romantic problems is axis on which the life of a filmy best friend revolves. In real life…well, you get the drift.
Always On Board For Plans
You know how every friend's group in real life always have at least one party pooper who is a no-show in most plans. Bollywood friendships are somehow immune to this problem. Whether it’s an impromptu trip to Goa or an extravagant Spanish bachelor getaway, Bollywood friends are always on board. Problems like office leaves or restriction of a budget is never a deterrent. Never mind if the friends are from drastically different financial or professional backgrounds if Bollywood friends make a plan they stick to it. Whereas our friends in real life can barely make it to a Saturday night bar-hopping!
