It seems like sequels are the surest way to get maximum box-office collection and traction at the theatres from the audiences. A number of hit Bollywood films decided to go down the road of sequels where audiences' favorite characters continued to live their stories in different settings.
The audience demand along with great box office returns are the major factors that prompt the director, producers, and actors to team up again and make a full-fledged franchise out of a particular film. The Hindi version of the film is the most successful Hindi film of 2017 and it grossed 510 Crores at the box office.
Golmaal Again: The fourth film of the popular comedy franchise became a box-office juggernaut and is now the 10th highest grossing Bollywood film ever. The success of the film shows ho popular Rohit Shetty and his characters are and the film earned 205.5 Crore at the box-office.
Judwaa 2: The sequel to the 1997 hit, Judwaa, went on to become one of the biggest hits of 2017. The films cemented Varun Dhawan place as the next superstar and became his 9th consecutive successful film. It earned 138.6 Crores in India.
Jolly LLB 2: The Akshay Kumar starrer was the sequel to the 2013 sleeper hit that featured Arshad Warsi as the titular character. The film became a box office success and earned 117 Crores at the box-office.
Badrinath Ki Dulhania: The 2nd film of the Dulhania series was a box-office smash. The film featuring Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles went on to earn 116 Crores at the box office.
Naam Shabana: The Taapsee Pannu starrer was a prequel to the events of Baby and centered on her character Shabana. Akshay Kumar also appeared in the film in supporting role and the 15 Crore budgeted film was successful with earnings of 36.7 Crores at the box office.
Fukrey 2: Another sequel to a 2013 sleeper hit, it brought back the central cast and crew of the film and opened to a great response at the box office. The film is expected to cross 30 Crores on its first weekend and it'll easily cross 36 Crores, the total collections of the first film in its very first week.
