8 Big Bollywood Directors Who Haven't Directed A Film For A While Now
Bollywood sees the release of a record number of films each year and it is also a home to some of the best directors working in world cinema today. Some of these directors have directed some of the biggest blockbusters and hard-hitting films of Hindi cinema and they are one of the major reasons for the popularity of Indian films abroad. Actors and actresses consider themselves lucky if they are a part of movies by these directors.
But directing is not everyone's cup of tea and the whole creative process and overseeing each and every aspect of filmmaking means that directors can't take too many projects at one time and try to finish off one film before starting the other. A number of filmmakers also become producers and then become busy with their respective production companies or take some time off to pursue other interests. Here are 8 big Bollywood directors who haven't directed a film for a long time now:
Farhan Akhtar: He last directed Don 2 in the year 2011 and since then has kept busy with his production ventures and acting in different films. There are rumors that he will come back to directing with Don 3 now but there has been no official announcement as of yet.
Rajkumar Santoshi: He last directed Shahid Kapoor starrer Phata Poster Nikla Hero in the year 2014 and since then has stayed away from directing. He is focusing on producing films at the moment but has said that he'd like to direct a film whenever he gets the chance.
Subhash Ghai: The veteran filmmaker last directed Kaanchi in the year 2014 which was a huge box-office flop. It seems like he will take a while before directing his next project.
Rohan Sippy: He last directed Ayushmann Khurrana and Kunal Roy Kapoor starrer Nautanki Saala in the year 2013. There has been an announcement that he will direct Aishwarya Rai in a thriller but the release date and other details are yet to emerge.
Vidhu Vinod Chopra: The legendary filmmaker directed his last Bollywood film Eklavya: The Royal Guard in the year 2007. He has focused majorly on his production company since then.
Rakesh Roshan: His last directorial venture was Krrish 3 in the year 2013 which was a huge blockbuster. Since then, he has produced films and he will next direct his son in the next Krrish film.
Shyam Benegal: The acclaimed filmmaker last directed a film in the year 2009 which was Well Done Abba. It has been a while and it seems like the audiences will have to wait for some time for his next project.
JP Dutta: The Border director last directed the film Umrao Jaan in the year 2000. He is now directing Paltan after a gap of 12 years.
