7 Bollywood Movies Which We Thought Will Get A Sequel But Didn't
One of the best ways for a Bollywood film to earn money at the box-office is turning it into a full-fledged franchise. A number of films have started franchises that have now turned into cash cows, like Dhoom, Golmaal, Housefull series etc. All of these films offer nothing new in terms of stories, character development or themes and mostly deliver recycled content and lame jokes.
Still, being an established franchise helps and when you have some of the biggest Bollywood actors leading these franchises, audiences don't complain much. It is interesting to see that a majority of franchises that exist in Bollywood today, very few would have thought of capturing audience's imagination like that. On the other hand, there were films which were already planned as 2,3 or 5 film franchises but didn't get any sequel because either they didn't perform well or it simply didn't materialize. Here are 8 such films:
Aabra Ka Daabra: The Harry Potter rip-off was more of a Parle G advertisement than a movie but it terrified the audiences in the end by confirming that there will be a part. Thank the old gods and the new, it didn't happen else Dumbledore would have died even before the Half-Blood Prince.
Bluffmaster: The Abhishek Bachchan-Riteish Deshmukh starrer was commercially successful as well as received a positive reception from the critics. There were talks of a sequel but nothing ever materialized though both the actors are still up for it.
Agent Vinod: Sriram Raghavan's spy-thriller was the first of a planned 5 film series. The ambitious project received good reviews but couldn't attract the audiences and hence the plans for a sequel were shelved.
Ra.One: For a long time, Shah Rukh Khan wanted to make a sequel to his 2011 superhero film which didn't please the audiences as well as the critics. Since then, there have been no talks of a second part.
Ek Villain: While rumours were rife that Sidharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt will star in a sequel to Ek Villain, director Mohit Suri recently refuted the claims and said he is making a thriller with Aditya Roy Kapoor and there are no plans for an Ek Villain sequel.
Mr India: Probably the best superhero sci-fi film to have come out of Bollywood, everyone was looking forward to a sequel and even director Shekhar wanted to make it. But nothing has materialized till now and no sequel is in pipeline as of now.
Drona: The fantasy adventure superhero film became the biggest disaster of everyone's career who was associated with the film but that didn't deter the enthusiasm of director Goldie Behl who had already finished the script of the sequel when the first film released. Though after the poor returns at the box-office, plans for a sequel were shelved.
