11 Underwhelming Performances By Bollywood Actors In 2018
Everyone has a lot of expectations from Bollywood films in 2018 as almost every big star is all geared up with a big release and a lot of stars will be seen in films with different and relevant content. While a lot was riding on the films of 2017, the eventual box-office result was not up to the expectations as big star vehicles failed to get the audiences into the theatres.
While a lot of expectations are there from the films of 2018 and some of the films have done exceedingly well, the performances of some actors even in the hit films are not up to the mark. We agree that box-office numbers matter a lot but then again the true joy of watching a film comes only when the performances are engaging enough. Here are 8 underwhelming performances by Bollywood actors in 2018:
Shahid Kapoor in Padmaavat: While the film went on to became a blockbuster and praises were in store for Ranveer Singh and the Sanjay Leela Bhansali's direction, Shahid's portrayal of Maharawal Ratan Singh did invite criticism with many saying that he didn't look the part which we definitely agree with.
Sidharth Malhotra in Aiyaary: All the films were hits at the box-office for Neeraj Pandey till he teamed up with Sidharth Malhotra for Aiyaary. The critics and the audiences unanimously said that his acting was hammy and it was only Manoj Bajpayee who was the saving grace.
Sonakshi Sinha in Welcome to New York: With a string of flops behind her, many thought that Sonakshi Sinha would redeem herself at the box-office with this comedy but sadly no. The film had one of the worst opening days and weekend and went on to become a box-office disaster.
Ishaan Khattar in Beyond the Clouds: Critics are calling this as the weakest Majid Majidi film yeat and many singled out Ishaan Khattar's (in his debut) performance as the weak point of the film.
Abhay Deol in Nanu Ki Jaanu: Whatever happened to the Abhay Deol we all came to adore after films like Manorama...Six Feet Under, Dev D, and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. The actor was definitely not at his best in the boring and torturous Nanu Ki Jaanu.
John Abraham in Parmanu: The actor's film was waiting for a release for a long time but after the release, the film received mixed to negative reviews as many pointed out the historical inaccuracies and the disjointed screenplay. Also, John's performance was pointed for being too serious than required which didn't spike the audience's interest.
Kareena Kapoor in Veere Di Wedding: In her comeback film, Kareena disappointed many of her fans as while everyone thought that her performance would be a treat to watch, all she did was sleepwalk through a role and Swara Bhaskar took away all the credit in the acting department.
Harshvardhan Kapoor in Bhavesh Joshi: Harshvardhan's performance was overshadowed by the newcomer Priyanshu Painyuli as the titular Bhavesh Joshi while his character was let down by a confusing script.
Aishwarya Rai in Fanney Khan – Aishwarya was seen in a film nearly a year and a half later after Ae Dil Hai Mushkil but many fans felt that any actress could have played the pop star Baby Singh in Fanney Khan. Rights from looking like a miss fit as a music sensation she gets kidnapped in the movie but barely acts like it.
Salman Khan in Race 3 – Though he is humble enough to accept that he is not a top-notch actor, one still expects a lot of action and entertainment from a Salman Khan film and Race 3 certainly failed to deliver on that end too. Now call it high expectations from Race 3 after the hype or just a bad film, we certainly know that Salman Khan can do beer than this.
Sanjay Dutt in Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3 – For an actor of his caliber Sanjay Dutt was really underutilized and monotonous in Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3. Playing the gangster, Sanjay Dutt was both underwhelming and heavily stereotyped.
