Bollywood Hits Of 2018 We Are Not Happy With
2018 is turning out to be one of the most fruitful years for Bollywood in terms of box-office numbers and performances by actors. Almost everyone was disappointed with 2017 which was a mixed bag for Bollywood and numerous bug star vehicles failed to get the audiences to the theatres and the highest grossing Hindi film was the Hindi version of Baahubali 2: The Conclusion.
But, 2018 turned a new chapter and the year got one of the biggest hits of all time in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat which was released in January and collected 300 Crores in India and 585 Crores worldwide. The year has just completed 6 months and we have already seen 7 movies which have grossed more than 100 Crores at the box-office. A number of films with the potential to earn 100 Crores and more are still awaiting their release and its now a certainty that 2018 will become the most successful year in terms of box office numbers.
Still, there are a few films in the first six months which became a hit but if you'll think hard, you'll realize that these films mostly benefitted from the buzz and hype and not the performances or the content. Here are 5 Bollywood hit movies of 2018 we are not happy with:
Baaghi 2: The Tiger Shroff starrer became the highest opener of 2018 on its first day and went on to do a record-breaking business at the box-office which exceeded everyone's expectations. The film ended up earning 165 Crores in India but the film drew widespread criticism for its poor acting, story and direction. But the action movie buffs made sure that the film becomes a hit.
Parmanu: The John Abraham starrer became a hit with collections of 63 Crores. The film faced a lot of trouble before its release with producers also dragging John Abraham to the court. The buzz for the film got stronger and with the theme of patriotism which seems to be the go-to option for John and Akshay, the film gained on word of mouth. But it drew criticism for manipulating the facts and not showing what really happened.
Raid: This Ajay Devgn starrer grossed over 100 Crores and became a hit solely because of the star power of Ajay Devgn. The Rajkumar Gupta directed film had a wafer thin script which was stretched like a rubber band for 2 hours and tested the elasticity of audience's patience. The whole thing could have fit into a 10-20 minute short film.
Veere Di Wedding: No one still knows that why or how Veere Di Wedding has ended up earning in excess of 80 Crores. The script and the screenplay were botched and the performance by Kareena Kapoor was downright terrible. Swara Bhaskar and Sonam Kapoor were the saving grace of this film which could have been so much better.
Race 3: Just like numerous proven laws of physics, the box-office law in India states that "Any or every Salman Khan film will remain unaffected in its box-office run and is completely independent of the script, story and critics' reaction to it." Race 3 is following the same law but we are also tired of watching the same thing again and again and it seems like the audiences are also feeling tired as the film saw a massive drop in its second week and may not even cross 200 Crores.
