Just like we seek inspiration from Bollywood for many walks of our lives, it is also from the lives of common people like us that Bollywood seeks inspiration from. While common stories have become increasingly common in Bollywood, these instances took them to a whole new level.
Although there is no way know these people who inspired some of the most iconic steps or characters of Bollywood, it is fun to think that inspiration for these instances came from such random people. Here are a few instances in Bollywood that were inspired by some of the most random people.
Varun’s Look In Sui Dhaga
For his upcoming film Sui Dhaaga, Varun is playing the role of a simple man who belongs to a family of tailors. Varun, who has been usually seen in characters who dress fashionably is a far cry from the Varun in Sui Dhaaga. He recently revealed that his look of a simpleton in the film is actually inspired by his own tailor.
Salman’s Dabbang Step
When Salman Khan held his belt and grooved to the tune of ‘Hud Hud Dabangg’ the nation literally went crazy and the move became the coolest thing ever. However, what most people do not know is the story behind the step. The step was inspired by an 80-year-old Bharat Mama who Salman met at a wedding in Jaipur, who was doing the step while dancing in the baraat. Salman was so impressed that he told him on the spot that he was going to emulate the step.
Bajirao Mastani’s Pinga Step
Sanjay Leela Bhansali, apart from her tragic romances and extravagant visuals, is known for his elaborate dance numbers. Apart from leading choreographers of Bollywood he has also sought the expertise of people like Pt. Birju Maharaj for songs like ‘Kaahe Chhed Mohey’ in Devdas and ‘Mohey Rang Do Laal’ in Bajirao Mastani. However, the hook step for his ‘Pinga’ to which Priyanka and Deepika danced to in the film was taken from a very unlikely source. It was Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s domestic help who was actually the inspiration behind the step.
Sultan’s Baby Ko Base Pasand Hai
When the song 'Baby Ko Pasand Hai' from Sultan released, people were impressed with the tune that was modern yet had an unmistakable rustic vibe. Vishal Dadlani of the music director duo, who composed the song, revealed that he sat with the Haryanvi security guard of his building and listened to the popular Haryanvi tunes on his phone and that is where the inspiration of the song came from.
Sadak’s Maharani
If people had any doubts about Sanjay Dutt and his heroin addiction, the blockbuster film Sanju has more than cleared it by now. While we all know the havoc this addiction has wrecked on Sanjay Dutt’s life, it also is the reason behind one of the most interesting characters in Bollywood. The character of Maharani played Sadashiv Amrapurkar in Sadak is based on a transgender drug dealer that Sanjay met when he used to frequent the shady areas of Mumbai to get his fix of heroin.
