Bollywood Nostalgia: Things you didn't know about 90s Bollywood
Do you remember standing in a queue, jostling to get your ticket for the movie being screened, outside your favorite single screen theatre? Did you wowed at those painted bollywood posters? Do you miss those audio cassettes? There are various things about old school bollywood that we miss these days. Here are some of them:
Ticket Rates- The ticket prices ranged from 5 Rs for a lower stall ticket to 50-60 Rs. for a Balcony ticket.
Cassettes Refilled- There used to be empty cassettes and people would go the nearest cassette store to make a mix tape of their favorite songs
Painted Posters- Did you know the posters used to be hand painted!
Classes- The seats used to be divided into classes like Lower Stall, Upper Stall, Balcony and premium Balcony/Diamond class.
Jubilees- The success of a film was measured through the number of weeks it stayed at the box office. 50 days would constitute a golden jubilee.
Promotional strategies- people were more influenced by songs, which would create an interest among the audiences and the trailers were still few in number.
Huge number of movies- The stars would do 5-10 movies a year!
Hum Aapke Hain Koun- One of the most successful movies of that time, Hum Aapke Hain Koun was released over 150 screens
Early shows – The shows would start as early as 6 a.m.
Single Screens- Single screens would rule and the multiplexes were nowhere to be seen till PVR revolutionized the theatre experiences. Now we have 6000 single screens and 2100 multiplex screens in India.
Manual Projection- The film was shown through a projector where the reels had to change, now the medium is digital.
