Find Out Who Is Playing Which Historical Character In Karan Johar's Mughal Drama Takht
Recently Karan Johar’s announcement about his upcoming film Takht has taken the world by storm. This new film has created a lot of buzz as this movie would be his first attempt in the historical drama genre and knowing his flair for extravaganze we can only imagine the stellar visual treat this film is going to be.
If that was not enough to drive us crazy, Karan has also announced the star cast of the film and it does not get any bigger than this. He has managed to assemble a dream cast which includes Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, Kareena Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and Janhvi Kapoor. In terms of multi-starrer, this film is going to be the baap of all multi-starrers for sure. The story of Takht will set in the 16th Century and will tell the story of the historical struggle between Shah Jahan's sons Aurangzeb and Dara Shikoh for the throne of Delhi. Find out which of these actors are playing which historical role in this epic historical drama.
Ranveer Singh
After playing historical characters in Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat, Ranveer would again be seen playing the role of a king. He will be playing the role of Dara Shikoh, the elder son of Shah Jahan whom Shah Jahan wanted to pass the throne to.
Alia Bhatt
For Alia, this will be her first historical drama and she will be seen playing the role Dara Shikoh's wife Nadira Banu Begum. It is said that Dara loved his wife Nadira very much and thus never married another woman which was a rare case in those days.
Vicky Kaushal
Riding high on the success of Raazi and Sanju, Vicky is in the best phase of her character right now. In his first Bollywood collaboration with K Jo, Vicky will be seen essaying the character of the sixth Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb who murdered his own elder brother Dara Shikoh and imprisoned father Shah Jahan to claim the throne of Delhi.
Bhumi Pednekar
Yet another new entrant in the Karan Johar camp, Bhumi will seen playing the role of Aurangzeb's first wife and chief consort Dilras Banu Begum. Aurangabad's Bibi Ka Maqbara which bears a striking resemblance to Taj Mahal was built in her memory by Aurangzeb who otherwise did not share the Mughlai enthusiasm for building with his ancestors.
Janhvi Kapoor
Although her debut film Dhadak worked magic at the box-office, being a part of a magnum opus like Takht is surely going to be a surreal experience for the young actress. Janhvi will be seen playing the character of Hirabai, also known as Zainabadi Mahal who was a slave girl that Aurangzeb fell in love with and brought to the court as his favorite concubine. It is said her early death severely affected the usually emotionless king Aurangzeb.
Kareena Kapoor Khan
Married to a royal in real life, Begum Bebo is all set to play the character of Jahanara Begum in Takht. Jahanara Begum was the daughter of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal and the elder sister of Dara Shikoh and Aurangzeb. She became the First Lady of the court after the untimely death of her mother and was trusted by Shah Jahan with important imperial responsibilities.
Anil Kapoor
Funnily enough, Anil Kapoor has not really played a royal historic character in the massive career that he has had in Bollywood. But all of that is going to change with Takht where he will be seen playing the role of Shah Jahan, the fifth Mughal Emperor. According to history, Aurangzeb locked him up in a cell in Agra Fort as he wanted to pass off the throne to his elder brother Dara Shikoh.
