With Bad Reviews, Will Kaalakaandi Be Saif Ali Khan's 8th Flop In A Row
Kaalakaandi is one of the first big star vehicles of 2018 and is led by the ever-charming Saif Ali Khan. The film is directed by Akshat Verma who is perhaps best known for writing the script of Delhi Belly, one of the finest ever black comedies to come out of Bollywood. It is his debut film and he has also written the script for this film.
The film also boasts of talented actors like Kunal Roy Kapoor, Deepak Dobriyal, Isha Talwar and Vijay Raaz. The trailer for the film promised a madcap entertainer like Delhi Belly and audiences had very high expectations. Here's Desimartini's pictorial review of Saif Ali Khan's Kaalakaandi:
The film touches upon multiple interesting subjects one of them being Saif Ali Khan's Rileen's experience. His character experiences various visions and audiences get to see the LSD effect on camera. Also, his interaction with Sheila, a transgender, was fun to watch. Deepak Dobriyal and Vijay Raaz's chemistry is also a treat to watch.
The film is full of major turn-offs like the Climax which abruptly ends the film and we don't see a particular fate for our principal character. There are also no connections between multiple plots, the comedy is quite underwhelming and the film is dragged by the slow pace. Also, Kunal Roy Kapoor is completely wasted.
The film is not engaging enough for the audiences and is full of dull moments that lead nowhere. The film gets a bit interesting at the beginning and before the interval but those are the only interesting elements in the film.
Overall, the film is an underwhelming effort and even Saif Ali Khan can't save the film with the material he is given. It seems like he will have to wait for his next big hit.
