See The Pictorial Review Of Akshay Kumar's PadMan Before Heading To The Theaters
Akshay Kumar starrer Padman hits the theatres today and the film is expected to be the 2nd hit of this year after Padmaavat. The film delayed its release by 2 weeks in order to accommodate Sanjay Leela Bhansali's historical epic. Akshay Kumar is having a golden run at the box-office and has delivered 5 back to back hits since 2016's Airlift. All of these films have raked in more than 100 Crores at the box-office.
Padman is inspired by the life of Arunachalam Murugananthan and is based on the book, The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad by Twinkle Khanna. It also stars Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte in prominent roles and Amitabh Bachchan makes a cameo appearance in the film. It is directed by R Balki who is known for films like Paa, Cheeni Kum and Ki & Kaa. Here is the pictorial review of the film:
Similarities: Audiences will find many similarities between Padman and last year's Toilet: Ek Prem Katha which also starred Akshay Kumar in the lead. Both Keshav and Lakshmikant set out to make a change for their wives and fight for their dignity amid age-old traditions. Still, both of their wives leave them and this motivation eventually turns into a social agenda.
Performances: Akshay Kumar leads from the front and makes the film immensely watchable. Audiences will relate to his character's hard work and determination. Radhika Apte becomes the source of motivation for our protagonist and she portrays her role effectively. Sonam Kapoor delivers yet another memorable performance post-Neerja and makes the 2nd half of film an interesting watch.
The film is very high on the entertainment quotient and is not preachy like Toilet: Ek Prem Katha which works in its favour. The music is average though and only the title song & Aaj Se Teri by Arijit Singh are worth remembering.
MJ Verdict: A majority of Desimartini's MJs are in favour of the film and praise the performances, message and story of the film.
