8 Upcoming Small Budget Films That Will Definitely Win Our Hearts!
2017 might not have created a superb impression at the box-office like other years, but this year turned significant in Bollywood history due to the unprecedented success of small budget films. While in the first half, films like Anarkali of Aarah or Poorna could not even keep their hold for a week despite being extremely well made, in the second half tables turned entirely. Right from Bareilly Ki Barfi to Subh Mangal Saavdhan or Newton, shows went houseful for months.
The current scenario looks absolutely favourable for small budget content-driven films to thrive. Here’s a list of 7 upcoming small budget films that may create a huge impact in Bollywood:
1. Ajji
The film is about a grandmother who goes out to avenge the rape of her 10-year-old granddaughter. The film has been shown in many festivals and the trailer has been released. It is not just disturbing, but would compel us to think! The film will release on 24th November.
2. Kadvi Hawa
The perils of the climate change have begun to make a visible impact on us. This film, directed by Nila Madhab Panda, talks about just that. The trailer promises stellar performances by Sanjay Misra and Ranvir Shorey. It will release on 24th November.
3. Maroon
The film, with Manav Kaul in the lead, is a psychological thriller. It is about a professor who fears that his wife has gone missing. The film also has Sumeet Vyas in a major role. It was showcased in Mumbai film festival last year and is awaiting theatrical release.
4. Mukkabaaz
The film is a sports drama about a boxer, who falls in love. It showcases the culture of sports in small towns of India. The film was supposed to release on 10th November but has been postponed until 2018.
5. Love Sonia
The film is about a village girl who will find herself entrapped in the sex trade market. The film will mark the debut of Tv actress Mrunal Thakur and it also has Richa Chadda, Demi Moore, Frieda Pinto, Rajkummar Rao and Anupam Kher. The film will release in February 2018.
6. The Hungry
The Bornila Chatterjee film is a modern adaptation of Titus Andronicus by William Shakespeare. The cast includes Naseeruddin Shah, Tisca Chopra, Arjun Gupta, Neeraj Kabi, Sayani Gupta, Antonio Aakeel amongst others. It will release in 2018.
7. Zoo
The film has been produced by Anurag Kashyap and directed by Shlok Sharma of ‘Haraamkhor’ fame. The film, that has Shweta Tripathi in the lead, is entirely shot on iPhone 6. It is about a young teenager who blames herself for an accident that happened a few years ago and finds herself trapped in her house to escape her emotions. The film will release in 2018.
8. Omerta
Rajkummar Rao and Hansal Mehta will collaborate once again for 'Omerta, a film about the British terrorist of Pakistani descent, Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh. It has garnered rave reviews in film Festivals and will release in 2018.
