Yeh Un Dinon Ki Baat Hai: All You Need To Know About Sony's New Show On 90s Nostalgia
Sony has been through tough times in the recent weeks with their best show reaching its completion, Kapil Sharma’s sabbatical and the abrupt end of Pehredaar Piya Ki amidst all controversies.
Meanwhile, very quietly, the channel has launched a show titled ‘Yeh Un Dinon Ki Baat Hai’ which in fact is a bloody brilliant show! This show covers up for all the damage that has been done so far because it plays on the safest bet, 90s nostalgia!
‘Ye Un Dinon Ki Baat Hai’ revolves around the 90s era and full points to the producers Shashi – Sumeet (Who also wrote PPK) for the fine detailing of every single thing that holds a nostalgic value for us. From the first colour TV to VCRs, the dialogues and representation of mindset of families back then, this show is thoroughly entertaining. The 80s and 90s kids who’ve stopped watching TV can come back to the idiot box for this show.
The story revolves around Naina, who lives with her extended family and has lost her mother. Her father and brother live in Delhi, and she’s best friends with her cousins. A quick witted Naina is the class topper, a perfectionist and innocent in nature. The hero looks much like Salman Khan from the 90s. He’s quintessentially sporting the same hair style, high neck sweater, and baggy jeans. The background music of the show will become popular and grow on everyone because it’s really pleasant and takes you back in the 90s.
You will genuinely love the detailing if you’ve lived in a middle-class family in the 90s and faced flak from elders for watching TV and ruining all sanskars. This show marks the comeback of IPKKND’s Bua Ji as a strict Hitler type Taiji who keeps singing bhajans in the house. The show highlights a few taboos of the society when Taiji calls her niece ‘Kallo’ (dusky) and taunts her for finding a suitable groom for her since she’s dusky in complexion. The first episode speaks about the old practice of dowry and how some girls were super comfortable with that. The comic timing of the characters is intelligently woven into the story line.
The current track is about the main lead Naina who is narrating the story of her olden days from the 90s. The power of radio, TV, hand painted movie posters, Ameen Sayani’s voice and super hit songs of the 90s like Chandini are elements that are scintillating about this show and really make for an interesting watch.
The voice over is actually a treat to listen, and you do realize how far we’ve come and it’s actually 2017, not 90s anymore! Salman Khan was Prem back then, not Bhai is what steals the show in the voice over.
This show is a time travel into the 90s and has all elements of becoming a hit if people wake up until 10:30 pm to watch it. It’s more of a prime time show that can be a super hit among households. We’ll leave that to the channel, but the show is a must watch even if you do not watch television.
