The total art budget of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham was 3 Crores. But, Karan Johar being the extravagant producer ended up spilling 3.5 Crores only on Bole Choodiyaan, which was the first song and shoot of the movie.
Karan used real M.F. Hussain paintings, custom made chandeliers for the set of Bole Choodiyan.
It was extremely difficult to get the entire cast out of their vanity vans for AD Nikkhil Advani, so he had to devise a strategy to position his people outside each vanity van and get everyone out at one go.
Nikkhil spoke in awe of Karna Johar’s splendid father and producer Yash Johar for his simplicity, conviction and management strategy for films. He told the audience how he used to write the budget on a piece of paper and keep it safely to keep going back to it during the shoots.
Speaking of PR strategies and marketing for films, Nikhhil told that he was advised to create a fake scandal for Farhan Akhtar during Lucknow Central as the marketers were inspired from Kangana’s raging controversy with Hrithik around Simran ’s release.
All the three directors agreed that if the budget of a movie is ‘X’, then the PR and marketing budget sometimes is also ‘X’ which is a complete wastage of money! They don’t quite believe in reality show hopping and feel it doesn’t do any good to the movie. Sometimes actors don’t even want to go to a Kapil Sharma show because they haven’t even seen a single episode in their lives.
Little do people know that both Devdas and Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham were being shot in Mumbai at the same time? There were a total of 83 generators in Mumbai which were being used by both the film sets, to an extent that no other film was being shot at that time in Bollywood, and no one could get married because all the generators were occupied.
Prernaa Arora hinted that the current generation of actors is a bit troublesome when it comes to accommodating with the producers. KriArj which has a 100% success rate with films like Toilet, is producing 12 films in a row.
All the three producers agreed in unison that Akshay Kumar is the most professional actors in the film industry.
