2017 has not been kind to the box office. There have been many films which were thought to set the box office on fire but did not perform well at the box office. Most of the big budgeted films were big flops with the exception of Raees and Baahubali 2. But there have been a lot of smaller budgeted films that have gone on to become hits thanks to their content and acting. These small films are a safe bet for producers as well as the chances of a film recovering its budget are pretty high. Here's a list of this year's low budget hits:

Badrinath Ki Dulhania- The Varun Dhawan-Alia Bhatt starrer made on a budget of 44 crores minted over 116 crores at the box office.
Phillauri- The Anushka Sharma-Diljit Dosanjh starrer was made on a budget of 21 crores and grossed over 51 crores.
Hindi Medium- This Irrfan Khan- Saba Qamar film won rave reviews from critics and audiences alike and grossed over 69 crores.
Lipstick Under My Burkha- The highly appreciated film was made on a budget of 6 crores and grossed over 26 crores.
Toilet: Ek Prem Katha- The socially relevant film resonated with the audiences worldwide and minted over 130 crores at the box office on a budget of 18 crores.
Bareilly Ki Barfi- The romantic comedy was made on a budget of 20 crores and grossed over 51 crores till date.
Babumoshai Bandookbaaz- The Nawazuddin Siddiqui film has grossed over 12 crores on a 5 crore budget.
Shubh Mangal Savdhan- The second outing of the hit pair of Bhumi Pednekar-Ayushmann Khurrana has grossed over 35 crores on a 10 crore budget.
Mom- The Sridevi led film grossed over 65 crores on a budget of 40 crores.
