Asoka- The Sanotsh Sivan directed film was released in 2001. It starred Shah Rukh Khan as the Emperor Asoka of the Mauryan Dynasty and Kareena Kapoor as Princess Kaurwaki. The film was warmly received by critics but didn’t get much commercial success.

1947 Earth- The Deepa Mehta directed film was 2^nd of her Element trilogy, others being Water and Fire. This film was based on Bapsi Sidhwa’s novel, Cracking India and dealt with the consequences of partition on its characters. It won overwhelming critical acclaim.

Hey Ram- The Kamal Hassan directed film is a fictional story set during partition and the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. The film divided critics and audiences for its audacity but has gained a cult status since then.
