6 Family Dramas Of Bollywood That You Should Actually Not Watch With Parents

The movie is single-handedly responsible for making life difficult for every child who ever watched with their parents. Every time the ‘nalayak’ sons of Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini treat them badly in the film, it would bring back the memories of the time you refused to eat the second helping of rice and hurt your mother or how you coming back home half an hour after deadline made your father lose his faith in your ‘sanskar’. We will never forgive the sons for making us placate our parents after the movie convinced them that ‘aaj kal ke bachhe’ have no respect or love for their parents and they would end up in old-age homes at some point of time in their lives.

Though the tagline of the film was ‘It’s all about loving your parents’ the film, if you observe carefully, it sort of contradicts itself. The moment Shah Rukh goes against his family to marry the girl of her choice and even leaves his family in the process it re-affirmed the fear in your parents that our partners would be more important to us than them.

Yet another Sooraj Barjatya entry on the list, Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon is not a movie that you should watch with your parents. Think carefuuly, do you really want your parents to be exposed to the character of Himani Shivpuri in the film? Plus, the ‘problem kya hai’ scene is super awkward to watch with your parents.

Ok we are not saying that arranged marriage is always a bad idea, but this movie glorified the idea to an extent that every time there is a conversation around marriage with parents and we present our counter opinion on arranged marriage, parents throw Vivaah on our face. Prem and Poonam set the bar of ‘sanskaari’ romance too high for us flawed mortals to match up to and we hate them for that.

As if Indian parents needed any more reason to eye a boy and a girl being friends with suspicion? The movie went out of its way to cement the regressive notion that ‘ek ladka aur ladki kabhi dost nahi ho sakte’ because even after the proverbial ‘Friends’ cap they do fall in love and wreck a lot of havoc. Why did you have to do that Sooraj Barjatya?

The Kareena Kapoor and Fardeen Khan starrer has been a source of fun and guilty pleasure for us, but watching it with parents is a bad idea like no other. If you decide to do it anyway, good luck sitting through the scene in which Kareena fights with Fardeen for looking at her exposed waist in a saree and Fardeen Khan getting mildly aroused in the most awkward way.
