Amidst many dynamic happenings that Bollywood witnessed in 2018, there was one common trend that remained pretty limited. In the last couple of years, Bollywood has made remakes of regional films a genre in its own. Every year we see a slew of movies from Indian regional industries and even outside being remade by Bollywood directors.

However, given how big a winner 2018 was in terms of content, we saw a barrage of original ideas and less dependency on remakes. However, even if few, remakes were indeed a part of Bollywood this year as well and here is how they fared at the box-office.

Starring Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani in the lead, Baaghi 2 was the remake of the super successful Telugu film Kshanam starring Adivi Sesh and Adah Sharma. Tiger Shroff’s action-packed performance was loved by the masses and the film registered a massive 165 crores and was declared a super hit.

    Dhadak

Probably one of the most talked about films of the year, Dhadak was the Hindi remake of the award-winning Marathi film Sairat that not only won the National Award but was also widely appreciated. Dhadak was also in news for being the launch pad of star kids Ishaan Khatter and Jahnvi Kapoor. The film received mixed reviews and responses from critics and audience and went on to collect about Rs.71.92 crores and was declared hit.

    Mitron

Yet another Hindi remake of a Telugu film, super hit Telugu film Peli Choopulu was the inspiration behind this one. The film had Jackky Bhagnani in the lead and marked the Bollywood debut of the popular television actress Kritika Kamra. The film failed to do too well at the box-office and collected about 2.50 crores at the box-office and was declared a flop.

    Fanney Khan

One of the biggest disappointments of the year, Fanney was the remake of Belgian film Everybody’s Famous. Despite having a stellar cast that included names like Anil Kapoor, Aishwarya Bachchan, and Rajkummar Rao, the film turned out to be a total dud and collected only about 09.85 crores at the box-office.

    Simmba

The Ranveer Singh starrer Simmba is the Telugu remake of the film Temper which was also a massive box-office success. The film, which happens to be the last release of 2018, has been doing really well at the box-office and has been able to amass a collection of 124 crores just on the 5th day of its release and the collection is only expected to go up.
