The idea of sequels has always been lucrative for Bollywood. Commercially speaking, it is surely a great idea to ride on the popularity of a film and known characters that the audiences have already accepted. However, the definition of sequels has been somewhat confusing in Bollywood. In Bollywood terms, attaching a 2 or returns to the title of a previous film has been the easiest way for Bollywood in terms of making sequels. Whether it has anything to do with the previous film of films is a question that makers are hardly bothered with.

Even if the films share some similarities with the previous ones, they are usually insipid and uninspired recycled product of the first one. This year, especially, we saw a lot of 'sequels' that were particularly sub-par. Here are a few films that proved that 2018 was not a good year for sequels in Bollywood.

    Race 3

The film surely collected money by virtue of being a Salman Khan film. but even hardcore Bhai fans could not defend the absolute ridiculousness of the film. The previous installments directed by Abbas-Mustan were at least decently made, but Remo D'Souza simply murdered this popular thriller franchise. But as they said, their business is  our business, none of our business. What more can we say.

    1921

To be very honest. 1920 was a pretty decent horror film given horror is one genre that Bollywood does not really excel in. But terrible Zarine Khan and Karan Kundra starrer monstrosity that came out this year was simply too much to bear.

    Hate Story IV

Why this particular franchise insists on making mindless and sleazy films in beyond us. Not that the previous installments were masterpieces of cinematic brilliance, but this Urvashi Rautela starrer simply took things to a new low. All we want to say to the makers is 'can you please stop already.'

    Saheb Biwi Aur Gangsters 3

Honestly, the first film was actually a brilliant film featuring some superb performances by Jimmy Shergill and Mahie Gill. The second one, although not as good, was still fine. But with the third installment, it is clear that director Tigamangshu Dhulia has totally lost the point as is just trying to encash on the popularity of the previous films. Nope, even the swagger of Sanju Baba could not save this film.

    Yamla Pagla Deewana 3

Ok, the first one was genuinely fun but if we knew that liking that film would mean two more mindless sequels then we would have been less enthusiastic about it. We could not tolerate the second one and the third one almost killed us. Dharmendra, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, if this reaches you, then please stop making more films in this franchise. Humanity ki kasam!
