The trailer of Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra starrer Jabariya Jodi is here and we are pleasantly surprised. The film, which is being directed by Prashant Singh is being produced by Ekta Kapoor and is all set to release on 2nd August.

The film is a romantic comedy and will be Sidharth Malhotra’s next release after Aiyaary in February 2018 while Parineeti Chopra is coming back to the screen after Akshay Kumar’s Kesari. Based in small town India and revolving around the menace of ‘pakadwa vivah’ or forced weddings, here are our takeaways from the trailer.

    The Plot

As mentioned above, the trailer tells us the story of a small town, perhaps in Uttar Pradesh or Bihar, where forced marriages are pretty common, especially to deal with the high demands of dowry prevalent in the culture of the area. This one, however, takes addresses the issue with humor and thankfully, the humor works, at least in the trailer.

    Sidharth Malhotra’s Charm

Let’s face it, we all know that Sidharth Malhotra is not the finest of the actors, but the dude has enough charm to pull off the character and he seems to be doing a fine job here. He has clearly worked on his accent and is surprisingly convincing. But unfortunately, despite all the styling and accent, Sidharth looks too urban to play a desi gun-totting thugs ‘jo shaadi aur shraddh dono karate hai’. The script and the direction has to be really strong to convince us that he is Abhay Singh, a small thug who runs a business of kidnapping and forcing grooms to get married against their will and of course, without a dowry.

    Parineeti Chopra Factor

Parineeti Chopra is, yet again’ playing a feisty small town girl in the film. The thing with Parineeti is, she has played the variation of this character so many times from Ishaqzaade that despite being perfect for the role it looks monotonous. In this one, she hatches a plan to kidnap and force the local goon Abhay to marry her.

    Supporting Cast

The film, to its credit, has managed to assemble quite an interesting supporting cast. We see glimpses of Javed Jaffery, Aparshakti Khurrana, and Sanjay Mishra in the trailer and together with wisecrack humor, there might be some good comic performances in the film from these talented supporting cast.

    Hilarious Dialogues

Apart from Sidharth Malhotra’s distracting good looks, even in ridiculous clothes, the best part of the film seems to be the dialogues of the film. A personal favorite would be, ‘rukawat ke liye khed hai, aapka kidnapping prepaid hai.’ The trailer is peppered with such crackling humor and it works. The jokes do not sound like WhatsApp forward and these days that is a major win for Bollywood comedies. There is a certain desi swagger to the story that blends well with the humor and gives the vibe a good, light-hearted romantic comedy on the backdrop of small-town India, a formula that has usually worked well at the box-office.
