HTLS 2019: Akshay Kumar Shares The Story Behind Him Having A Canadian Passport, Says People Questioning His Patriotism Hurts Him

Akshay Kumar was at his candid best as he spoke at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit. Along with Kareena Kapoor Khan, who was also the fellow speaker, they both spoke about both their personal and professional lives.

One of the questions asked to Akshay at the session was about his Canadian passport and how does he feel when people question his patriotism over the same. A visibly emotional Akshay Kumar opened up and talked about how he came to have a Canadian passport. Akshay said, “There was a time when I had about 14 back to back flops and I thought that my career was over and I had to do something else. One of my closest friends who live in Canada asked me to come over and start working with him and that is when I got my passport and everything done. But then it so happened that my 15^th film worked and I did not have to go to Canada.”

Akshay further added that it hurts him when people question his patriotism over his Canadian passport. He said, “ It hurts me when people say things like this. That one piece of paper cannot define my love for the country with a piece of paper. My family all have Indian passports, I pay my taxes here, my whole life is here. However, I don’t want to give people opportunities which is why I have applied for an Indian passport.”
