The Sky Is Pink Trailer: Farhan, Priyanka And Zaira Promise A Heart-Wrenching Masterpiece

After waiting for what seemed like an eternity, the trailer of Shonali Bose’s The Sky Is Pink is finally here. Starring Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar, Zaira Wasim in leading roles, the film is based on the heart-wrenching real-life story of Aisha Chaudhry, the young motivational speaker who succumbed to pulmonary fibrosis at the young age of 19. In fact, her memoir, My Little Epiphanies was published just one day after she passed away.

Inspired by this incredible story, Priyanka and Farhan are playing the roles of Niren and Aditi Chaudhry, Aisha’s parents while Zaira Wasim would be seen playing the role of Aisha with Rohit Saraf, essaying the role of Ishaan Chaudhry, Aisha’s brother.

A curious blend of life, humor, death and above all bond of love, here is what we think about the trailer.

It Is A Love Story

The story might be based on this little girl and her battle with a fatal sickness, but the film is all about love. Whether it is the love story between Niren and Aditi, lovingly called ‘panda’ and ‘moose’ by their daughter or the family bonds and of course the love of the parents and their challenges to keep their ailing daughter alive.

Priyanka Chopra Back On Screen

It has been three years since Prakash Jha’s Jai Gangaajal in 2016 that we saw Priyanka Chopra in a Hindi film. The queen is back on screen and we are nothing short of mesmerized. However, it is not just the excitement of seeing Priyanka on-screen, but also the effervescence that she has brought to this expectedly complex character is something that is a delight to watch.

The Easy Chemistry

Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar are sharing the screen after their stellar performance in Zoya Akhtar’s Dil Dhadakne Do in 2015. The two of them have an easy chemistry that translates beautifully on-screen. From being cutesy lovers to elated parents and finally being comrades in undertaking the challenge of saving their daughter life that puts a strain on their relationship, it is a heart-warmingly beautiful portrayal of a relationship. In addition to that, even Zaira and Rohit’s chemistry with the rest of the cast feels wonderfully real and is setting the film up for really high expectations.

Perfect Blend Of Empowerment And Heartbreak

The end of the story that the film is based on is as heart-aching as it can get. Thus, it must have been difficult for the director to build to a the heartbreaking climax that we all already know about. It is perhaps for the same reason that the film, apart from tugging at your heart-strings, also focuses on the incredible journey of this family that fought the inevitable fate with utmost courage, gusto and above all a smile on their faces.

Humor On Point

Given the grim ending of the real story, we were perhaps expecting a film with a very serious tone. However, the film completely defies that notion and tells this heart-wrenching story with a generous and terrific dose of humor. Whether it is the constant banter between Farhan and Priyanka’s characters or the irreverent and fun back and forth between the kids and the parents, or Aisha’s sassy and spunky comebacks it is a truly refreshing take on modern relationships. Also, the way humor has wry quality to it, makes the tragedy have a bigger impact perhaps. In one of the scenes, where Farhan says “ Tum dekhna Aditi, ek din mai itne paise kamaunga ki in sab chizon ke baare mai sochna bhi nahi parega,” a clearly exhausted Priyanka in the hospital taking care of her ailing daughter, quips, “Ek baar Ayesha theek ho jaye na, to milkar bank lutenge,” The spirit of the entire film is perhaps best captured here.
