Superstar Amitabh Bachchan has worked in many hit films in his career spanning over 51 long years and the actor won our hearts every time he shined on the big screen. But his spectacular performance in the 1977 action comedy Amar Akbar Anthony is undoubtedly one of the biggest highlights of his journey in the Hindi film industry. Also featuring Vinod Khanna, Rishi Kapoor, Shabana Azmi, Parveen Babi and Neetu Singh, the film did great business and became the highest-grossing Indian film of that year. The cult classic, directed by Manmohan Desai, locks in 43 years today.
Big B played the role of a licensed liquor dealer named Anthony Gonsalves in the film and his track ‘My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves’ became one of the most popular songs of that time. Celebrating the milestone of the film today, the actor took to his social media handle to share a beautiful throwback picture remembering the time he was shooting that very song and his children Shweta and Abhishek came to meet him on the set. In the caption, the superstar also compared Amar Akbar Anthony’s collection to that of Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. He shared, “It is reported that it did a business of 7.25 cr at that time .. inflation adjusted it crosses collections of Bahubali 2 .. say the sayers who do calculations. But fact is it did massive business .. did 25 weeks in 25 theatres in Mumbai alone .. or so they say.”
