5 Reasons Why Oscars 2019 Is Going To Be One Of The Most Controversial Ceremonies Ever

Every year, film buffs around the globe wait for the most glorious celebration of the art of movies. While every year the buzz around the ceremony is usually all about discussing or rather trying to predict the winners of the prestigious award, this year the discussion is mostly all about the never-ending controversies.

From the Black Panther row to the Kevin Hart issue, this is probably the most controversial Oscars, that too before the ceremony has actually taken place. Read on to know what we are talking about.

Black Panther Row

People, especially on social media, went up in arms when Black Panther was announced to be one of the nominees of the Best Film. While this is the first time a superhero film has been a part of this prestigious list, most fans feel that despite being a good film it surely did not deserve the honor and there were many superhero films in the past that actually deserved to win a nomination.

Best Popular Film Category Row

Fans were not pleased when Oscars decided to include The Best Popular Film as a new category. Most people were of the opinion that bracketing films this way gives off an idea that popular film cannot be Best Films and a new category has to be created for them. Oscars committee dropped the category following the backlash.

Kevin Hart Row

Things were already getting pretty heated up when Oscars committee dropped the final bomb about comedian Kevin Hart being the host of the ceremony. Hart has been receiving a lot of flak for his outrageously homophobic comments. Following the backlash, he has dropped from playing the host and this year Oscars is actually not going to have a host.

Awards During Commercial Row     

The broadcast length of the show has been a point of contention for some time now. The committee felt that the ceremony goes on for too long and it order to shave some time off they decided to give away a few technical awards like Best Live Action Short, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and Best Makeup and Hairstyling during the commercial breaks. Obviously, people were not too excited about it and they had to put a stop to this decision as well.

The organizers were on a serious mission to keep the ceremony short this year, but clearly, the fans are having none of it. In order to shave some time it was decided that instead of all the nominees of the Best Original Score category only one or two nominees would be performing at the ceremony. They even selected Shallow from A Star Is Born and All The Stars from Black Panther. Needless to say, the decision faced tremendous flak as the fans did not like the second-class treatment it meted out to the other nominations. The decision has been taken back by the committee following the backlash.
