7 Years Of The Lunchbox: Nimrat Kaur Says She Went From Being ‘That Cadbury Girl’ To ‘That Girl In That Irrfan Movie’ Overnight

Many great things have been said about Irrfan Khan’s The Lunchbox ever since it released 7 years ago on September 20, 2013. Getting nostalgic on the film’s anniversary today, the film’s leading lady Nimrat Kaur shared how the movie transformed her career overnight.

The actress tweeted how after the film released she went from being ‘that Cadbury girl’ to being ‘that girl in that Irrfan movie’. Paying a tribute to her late co-star Irrfan Nimrat added that the film remains’ ‘one of life’s greatest honours as his ardent fan, admirer and an actor. Forever blessed to have shared this gift of a journey...’

Right from the concept, story to performances the film earned accolades internationally and even earned itself a BAFTA nomination in the Best Non English Film category. The Ritesh Batra directorial was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and got a standing ovation at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.

This unusual love story also had the backing of many for being India’s official entry to the Oscars that year but it wasn’t ultimately sent.

Apart from critical acclaim The Lunchbox was also a box office success and remained Irrfan’s highest grossing film till it was surpassed by Hindi Medium in 2017.
