Aayush Sharma on not debuting with Shershaah: "Realized it cannot be mounted on a debutant, it's too much pressure"- EXCLUSIVE

It was in August that Shershaah released and became an instant hit. People watched and rewatched it and the audience was in awe of Sidharth Malhotra's performance as the war hero, Captain Vikram Batra. Reports also started doing the rounds that Salman Khan had been planning to make the film as a launchpad for Aayush Sharma and had also approached co-producer Shabbir Boxwala for the same. However, that did not happen. Now, Aayush Sharma has opened up about it.

Talking to us, Aayush Sharma, whose second film Antim: The Final Truth released today, said, "We discussed the film Shershaah in the beginning. And at that point in time, he knew that this is a very big film, you know, it's a good production scale film, and it cannot be mounted on a debutant. We heard the film, we heard the idea and it was a great idea. It's a great film. And I knew that I am not ready to play a biopic in my first film. We were very much aware that it's too much of a task for your first film to play a hero like Vikram Batra. Vikram is from the same state as me and so we just want to know what the concept is. We just wanted to understand how the film is gonna flow. But at that time we realized that it's a very heavy budget film, which cannot be mounted on a debutant. I won't be able to justify and it is too much of a pressure when you're giving a tribute to somebody like Vikram Batra."

He further added, "I think that was the best decision because, by the end of it, and I think Sidharth has done a phenomenal job. Here we say that every film has its own destiny, you know, and I think that film's destiny was with Sidharth and it was a brilliant thing that it happened like that."

Sidharth Malhotra had earlier revealed, "It all started when Vishal Batra, Vikram Batra's twin brother and Shabbir Boxwala five years ago approached me to play Vikram Batra's role. That time it was a completely different team and setup. I knew from day 1 that this is a film I want to be a part of, I wanted to do this role. I, obviously, was aware of Captain Vikram Batra but in so much detail at that time. It took me two and a half years to realise that it wasn't being made in the way that I thought it should be. And with Vishal Batra's permission, I decided to take this tory to my debut production, Dharma Production House."
