Abhay Deol On His ZNMD Snub At An Award Show: Give The Award To The Biggest Star, Don’t Demote Me And Farhan

Abhay Deol a few months ago spoke about how he was snubbed at a popular award show when he and Farhan Akhtar were nominated in the supporting actors’ category for Zindagi Naa Milegi Dobara whereas Hrithik Roshan and Katina Kaif were nominated as leads. Offended, Abhay chose to skip the award show while Farhan Akhtar as bothered by the matter.

Now shedding more light on his post that went viral on social media in June when the debate about Bollywood’s double standards was at its peak, Abhay tells Zoom why he never spoke up at the time.  “I didn’t say anything at the time, kept quite. I was like forget it, whatever, I just won’t go. Even Zindagi, that was my 10th movie, I had done and said so much already that I felt like I am going to be the only one screaming and will look like bitter or cynical. So forget it,” he told the channel.

Abhay has now spoken up and hope that it would bring about some change in the way that actors are treated and his case discredited. He says, “This was just shameless, it was shocking, it was just out there and it was so blatant. Like we don’t care what people have to say, we can just do this because we can. And that sort of cavalier, cocky attitude needed to go and now they will be more careful. I am not saying they will necessarily change but they will be careful. Just give the award to one you think is the biggest star but don’t demote me and Farhan.”

In his post Abhay had pointed out how ZNMD which released in 2011 was the story of three friends but was reduced to being a boy meets girl story by the logic followed by the award show.
