Thanks to the coronavirus pandemic and the subsequent nationwide lockdown in 2020, many upcoming films were put on hold. Release dates were pushed indefinitely after theatres shut down and shooting came to an abrupt halt. While some filmmakers decided to wait for the situation to get better, many others opted for a direct digital release for their films so that audiences could enjoy premieres at home. Well, theatres have reopened but many films will be releasing on OTT platforms this year as well. One such movie is Abhishek Bachchan’s The Big Bull.

In a recent chat with Mid Day, Abhishek opened up about the decision made by makers to release his film on a digital platform. He shared, “We were making a movie for the cinema halls. The pandemic changed circumstances for us. One of the first things Ajay came and spoke to me during the lockdown was about the situation. There was huge uncertainty about how the pandemic will play out. Ajay had the foresight of saying that ‘hey everything about it is for the big screen. It is meant as a spectacle but let's make sure we reach the audience. I am glad Hotstar liked the film and graciously accepted it. It’s a big screen spectacle but I hope the energy translates on the small screen.”

Directed by Kookie Gulati and co-produced by Ajay Devgn, the crime drama film is based on the life of stockbroker Harshad Mehta and the financial crimes he was involved in over a period 10 years. Also starring Nikita Dutta and Ileana D'Cruz, The Big Bull will stream worldwide on 8 April on streaming platform Disney+Hotstar.
