Adhyayan Suman Says He Never Indulged In Nepotism

Exclusive: Adhyayan Suman Asks 'Why Has Karan Johar Not Given Me A Film?' As He Speaks About Star Kids Struggling In Bollywood

Bollywood might be a distant dream for those who look upon the industry from the outside but according to Adhyayan Suman being a star kid doesn’t make it a cakewalk either. The nepotism debate that has plagued Bollywood for some time now is looked at differently by the Aashram actor who has faced several hurdles trying to sustain his career as a movie star but those problems seem to have only given him the perspective to try things differently.

We asked the actor if he felt Bollywood was biased towards bigger stars and he replied, “There is a huge reason why I didn’t want to speak out because there is one very important thing that I have learnt about our Indian film industry, which is unless and until you are not very successful, people don’t want to listen to your stories.”

Being a star kid doesn't really give anyone pass when it comes to criticism and with the actor, it was no different. Speaking about quick judgments and trolls Adhyayan looks back at how him speaking about a bad relationship was dubbed as a publicity stunt.   “They [people] pass judgments when they feel the person is putting forth his own perspective for publicity. Initially, that used to hurt me a lot because I have had relationships which have scarred me for a long time and for many years when I spoke about it, I realised the backlash I received was humongous, with people saying, ‘he is frustrated’, 'he is a failure’ ‘he doesn’t have a National Award’, ‘he doesn’t have an Oscar’. I was so lost back then. I am just an actor. Forget whose son I am or what is happening with me in terms of my stardom, I am just a human being who wants closure by talking about what he has been through. People back then used to say, ‘he has an ulterior motive'," Adhyayan stated.

Coming back to the current situation where the nation is still shocked over the sudden death of Sushant Singh Rajput, the Aashram actor feels that the constant scrutiny and fear of judgment leaves actors with no one to talk to. “The reason why we’ve had so many suicides in the film and TV industry is because they didn't have anyone to speak to. They were afraid about being judged by people,” quipped he.

Explaining his point further he adds, “When one is on a public platform, people want to discuss about one's personal life. Therefore, people should also be receptive to what one has to say without judging. Why don’t people listen? Why are they so judgmental when one is speaking about what one has been through. It is not just me wanting an emotional closure [I don’t deny that] but I wanted to speak out also because there are so many people facing the same problem."

"For instance, the phase that Sushant went through might be because he didn’t have people to speak to. Maybe he wanted to talk to people and he didn’t find anybody. He must have been afraid that if he speaks about his depression people will make fun of him or they might say he is speaking this way because he is frustrated”, the actor ruminated.

Adhyayan is surely dejected at the way the current circumstances are and he states that instead of being worried about what people will think, it is always better to speak out, “It is very unfortunate that these things have happened. I felt, I needed to just speak out. ‘Logo ka Kaam Hai Kehna’ so might as well, just be out there and speak your heart out and that is exactly what I did,” he added.
