Aditya Chopra On Father Yash Chopra's Birth Anniversary Pens A Note Recalling How He Started YRF Out Of A Tiny Room

Filmmaker Aditya Chopra got nostalgic on the occasion of legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra’s birth anniversary and penned a heartfelt note recalling how 50 years ago his father started Yash Raj Films leaving the comfort of a salaried job he had with his brother B.R. Chopra.

The year 2020 is big for the production house that has given Bollywood some of its most iconic films including Kabhie Khabie, Silsila, Chandni, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Veer Zara, Dhoom, Chak De and many more. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the production house, Aditya in his note wrote about how Yash Chopra started the company in a tiny room in V Shantaram’s studio and how he expanded that company making it one of India’s biggest banners in the film business.

His note read: “In 1970, my father Yash Chopra, left the security and comfort of his brother Mr. BR Chopra and formed his own company. Till then, he was a salaried employee of BR Films and didn't own anything of his own. He did not know how to run a business and did not even have the basic knowledge of what goes into making a company. All he had was a strong belief in his talent and hardwork and a dream to be self-reliant. That conviction of a creative man backing nothing but himself and his art, gave birth to Yash Raj Films. Mr. V Shantaram, who owned Rajkamal Studios, graciously gave him a small room in his studio for his office. My father didn't know then, that the small company that he started in a tiny room, would one day become the biggest film company of the Indian Film Industry.”

Thanking all the artists and talents of his company he also added spoke of the Indian film fraternity's heritage and write, “On behalf of my entire YRF family of artists, workers and employees, I thank the Indian Film Industry for allowing YRF to be part of your great heritage. The Industry where I met the most wonderful, talented and beautiful people. The Industry I hope to be part of in every lifetime...in any capacity whatsoever.”

Yash Raj Films in its 50th year is expected to make some big announcements with many mega budgeted projects in the pipeline. Some of these include Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathan, Salman Khan’s Tiger 3 and Ajay Devgn’s superhero flick.
