After 5 of his films dominating Bollywood's theatrical line-up, Akshay Kumar reveals Atrangi Re might get a digital release

It is raining release dates in Bollywood ever since the Maharashtra government announced the reopening of theatres in the state. Akshay Kumar is leading the re-opening of cinemas with 5 films of him already blocking the calendar in 2021 and 2022. His film Atrangi Re with Aanand L Rai is the only film remaining in his impressive line-up now to get a release date and chances are that the film might not greet people in the theatres like all the other films of Akshay.

The star who re-inaugurated the cinemas after the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic with his film Bell Bottom has told HT City that Atrangi Re might head for a direct to digital release when asked about the plans for the film’s release, “To be honest, I haven’t yet included Atrangi Re in the list because we are still mulling over whether it should be a theatrical film or an OTT release. And OTT may simply be the medium of choice for Atrangi Re, as it looks right now,” the star said.

Akshay added that “Atrangi Re has a fantastic, never-heard-before subject and storyline. For me and Anand Rai, it is critical that the most suited platform is chosen for the film.” He further said that he stands as much for OTT as he does for cinemas. Atrangi Re also stars Sara Ali Khan and Dhanush in the lead.

His current lineup for the big screen currently includes Sooryavanshi, Ram Setu, Prithviraj, Bachchan Pandey, RakshaBandhan and Ram Setu.
