    After Jayalalitha, Kangana Ranaut To Play India's First Female Prime Minister Indira Gandhi On Screen

    Actress Kangana Ranaut is all set to play India’s first female Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on screen in an upcoming project. This will be the second political leader the actress will be portraying on screen after her film Thalaivi which is a biographic drama on the film of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha.

    Many prominent actors are touted to be part of the yet-untitled project and the script of the film is in final stages revealed the actress. The movie will be covering many prominent events relevant to Indira Gandhi’s life and times including the Emergency and Operation Blue Star. Kangana, however, clarified that the film is not a biopic in a statement.

    "Yes, we are working on the project and the script is in final stages. It is not the biopic of Indira Gandhi, it is a grand period film, to be precise a political drama that will help my generation to understand (the) socio-political landscape of current India," the Queen actress said in a statement.

    The actress will also be bankrolling the film while it will be helmed and has written by Sai Kabir.

    In a tweet on social media, the actress referred to an old photoshoot of hers dressed as Indira Gandhi and wrote, “This is a photoshoot about iconic women I did in the beginning of my career, little did I know one day I will get to play the iconic leader on screen.”


    Not just Indira Gandhi the movie will also have characters based on prominent Indian political figures including, Sanjay Gandhi, Rajeev Gandhi, Morarji Desai, and Lal Bahadur Shashtri.

    The project according to the actress is based on a book.
