Ajay Devgn Enjoys His Second Biggest Week One With Tanhaji-The Unsung Warrior, Is Next Only To Blockbuster Golmaal Again

Ajay Devgn has scored huge, and how. His Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior has done superb business at the box office with very good collections right through the week. The film started quite well at 15.10 crores, then went on to enjoy a weekend of 61.93 crores and has now almost doubled the weekend business when it comes to the final tally in the first week. There is no stopping the film as it has been lapped up by the audiences in a big way and this can pretty much be seen from the fact that it has now emerged as second biggest opener for Ajay Devgn.

Ajay Devgn Enjoys His Second Biggest Week One With Tanhaji-The Unsung Warrior, Is Next Only To Blockbuster Golmaal Again

So far, the biggest start has been taken by Golmaal Again, which had an opening week of 136.08 crores. However that film was a Diwali release and while that was indeed beneficial, the footfalls sustained right through and as a result the 200 Crore Club came calling. Now Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior too would be expecting the same trajectory as it too comes with a potential to enter the 200 Crore Club. It is a given though that 175 crores would be crossed in a jiffy and what would be closely observed is the progress that it makes from there on.

That said, the film has left behind the first week total of all other Ajay Devgn biggies, as evident from the list below:

    Golmaal Again – 136.08 crores

Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior – 118.91 crores (one week and still running)

    Singham Returns - 113 crores

    Total Dhamaal – 94.55 crores

    Shivaay – 70.41 crores

Son of Sardaar - 70 crores

    Bol Bachchan – 66.72 crores

    Raid – 63.05 crores

    Golmaal 3 - 62 crores

De De Pyaar De – 61.05 crores

All these films had gone past the 100 crores mark eventually and were hits/superhits. With the kind of performance that Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior has delivered so far, it belongs to the blockbuster category. However it is an expensive film which means a bigger number would be required for the Om Raut directed affair to gain a blockbuster tag. For that to happen, at the bare minimum it would have to go past the 200 crores mark and if that indeed turns out to be the case, it would be a big deal indeed for this period action drama that has set a benchmark.
