Ajay Devgn has scored big again, and how. His Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior has enjoyed a very good weekend at the box office and that too after releasing on a regular Friday. The film first exceeded expectations with a first day of 15.10 crores and then went on to have a bountiful weekend with good growth on Saturday as well as Sunday. With that, the opening weekend is now amongst the best ever for Ajay Devgn as it has found a place for itself amongst the Top 5 ever.

Singham Returns - 78 crores

As can be seen, Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior is amongst the best of the lot and is just a bit lower than Total Dhamaal, which had released a year back. However, it is far ahead of the next in line, Baadshaho. What is even more remarkable is that while Golmaal Again [Diwali] as well as Singham Returns [Independence Day] were holiday releases, Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior as well as Total Dhamaal came on regular Fridays and still came up trumps.

Another interesting factor to be considered is that each of the three films right at the top is a franchise affair. Golmaal Again and Singham Returns have always been Ajay Devgn affairs and the franchise has been loved over the years. As for Dhamaal series, it was always popular especially on the satellite circuits but with Ajay Devgn stepping in, it took a different dimension altogether and is now a further established franchise. Tanhaji - On the other hand The Unsung Warrior is a standalone film and that makes its box office opening all the more credible.

Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior is now set to be one of the biggest earners of Ajay Devgn. In the long run, it should definitely go past the Singham Returns lifetime of 140 crores. However, it would also be targeting Total Dhamaal lifetime of 154.23 crores. If that indeed turns out to be the case, 2020 would see a major winning kick-start for itself with the Om Raut directed film.
