Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Leela Bhansali are finally reuniting 22 years after Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam for Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi. Their collaboration is a big new for fans of both parties and Ajay even shared a picture from the sets of the film as he finally began shooting with Bhansali and summed up his reaction to the reunion saying, ‘Back on Sanjay’s set after two decades; feels good!’

Well, for those wondering how come it took 22 years for these two bigwigs to get together again after a blockbuster like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam you ought to know that the filmmaker actually offered multiple films to Ajay in all these years. Sadly, things never really materialsed before Gangubai Kathiawadi.

Ajay was Bhansali’s original choice for the 2015 hit Bajirao Mastani. If all had worked out it could have Been Ajay instead of Ranveer Singh. The actor, however, turned down the offer to play Peshwa Bajirao as they couldn’t agree on terms and conditions for the project.

After the Bajirao, Sanjay Leela Bhansali reportedly approached Ajay years later for Baiju Bawra to play Tansen in the project. The role was again turned down by the Singham actor while reports suggested that Ranveer was being considered for playing Baiju in the project.

Ajay who played Vanraj in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam opposite Aishwarya Rai is widely remembered for his performance and we can’t wait to see what his reunion with the filmmaker would be like in this 2021 film. Ajay will reportedly be playing don Karim Lala in the project who was Gangubai’s Rakhi brother.

Gangubai is scheduled to release in theatres on July 30.
