Akshay Kumar Says Laxmmi Bomb Is The Most 'Mentally Intensive Role' Of His 30 Year Career; Talks About Shooting In A Saree

Akshay Kumar is once again ready to explore unchartered territory with his upcoming Diwali release Laxmmi Bomb. The actor who plays a man possessed by a transgender ghost admits in an interview with Maneish Paul that he had heard the story of the film a few years ago and wanted to work on the project but it couldn’t materialize till now. The film directed by Raghava Lawrence is a remake of the Tamil film Muni 2: Kanchana.

The actor in a behind the scenes interview for Laxmmi Bomb “I’ve been in my career for 30 years. But the character of Laxmmi has been the most mentally intensive role I’ve ever played. But somehow I managed it. And I thank my director. He is behind everything about this character — how it moves, what it says and how it dances. In a way, I have imitated him. If this film works, it is because of Lawrence.”

Talking about wearing a saree to play Laxmmi Akshay said, “In one word, saree is the most graceful outfit in the world. For me wearing a saree was an experience in itself. Managing a saree is really difficult. Initially when I wore a saree to shoot it would come off, I couldn’t move let alone dancing or fighting. Hats off to all the women who manage it so gracefully, in fact if you really want to appreciate the process everyone should try it on yourself at least once. You’ll realize it’s really difficult.”

Akshay spoke about giving representation to the transgender community with the film and said that the audience will walk away with some knowledge about gender equality after watching the film. He says that the biggest problem that the transgender community faces is that of acceptability and hopes that the film makes some difference.

Laxmmi Bomb is releasing on Disney+ Hotstar on November 9 and also stars Kiara Advani.
