Reports had been doing the rounds for quite some time that Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani starrer might opt for a digital release instead of going to the theatres. Mid and small budget films have already chosen that path. Right from Ayushmann Khurrana-Amitabh Bachchan starrer Gulabo Sitabo to Vidya Balan’s Shakultala Devi to Bhumi Pednekar-Konkona Sensharma’s Dolly, Kitty Aur Who Chamakte Sitaare, quite a few films would have a digital release in the coming days. But given Laxmmi Bomb has been a huge project and the fact that Akshay Kumar would don an interesting avatar, it was only profitable that it releases in theatres!

But looks like the makers might have finally given in to release the film digitally. According to a report in Pinkvilla, the fact that the film has been offered Rs. 125 crore is the reason behind it. In the report, a source has been quoted saying, “It's true that the film will now be premiering on Hot Star. Although there was a bit of disagreement initially, everyone is on the same page now.” He also added that some work remains to be done and the film would still take a month after lockdown to be completed.  He further said, “Usually digital rights of a big film get sold at record prices of Rs 60-70 crore max. But since this film won't have a theatrical release and will be straightaway sold to digital, they have fetched a huge price. Laxmmi Bomb has been sold for a staggering Rs 125 crore. But while the number is huge considering digital rates, what one must not forget is that it had the potential of earning over 200 crore at the box office, despite a clash with Salman Khan's Radhe. So the total revenue that the team will make out of it, is much less."
