Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi And Ranveer Singh Starrer ‘83 To Release Between December And March; Here’s Why

The nation went under a lockdown back in March to help stop the spread of novel coronavirus. Well, many months have passed, many relaxations have been introduced and now our country has entered Unlock Phase 5. Much to our delight, ministry of home affairs has also announced that film theatres and multiplexes will be reopening from October 15th with 50% seating capacity. However, it has been reported that much awaited films like Sooryavanshi and ‘83 will not be hitting the big screen any time soon.

In a chat with Mid Day, Reliance Entertainment group’s chief executive officer Shibasish Sarkar shared, “It's not practical to release Sooryavanshi on Diwali because we don't know whether cinemas in major states are opening yet. The state governments of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh have announced that their cinema halls will remain shut this month. So, it will be fair to assume that most states will open up only by December 1.”

So we would have to wait a few more months to watch Akshay Kumar and Ranveer Singh shine on the big screen. “Once the country opens up, we don't want to hold off the films for too long. We may or may not change the release date of 83. We haven't had a discussion with the directors [Rohit Shetty and Kabir Khan] yet. I am assuming both films will hit screens between December 2020 and March 2021.”

Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi, starring Katrina Kaif and Akshay, marks the fourth installment in the filmmaker's Police Universe after Singham, Singham Returns and Simmba. Ranveer’s ‘83, on the other hand, is a much-awaited sports drama based on the 1983 World Cup, directed by Kabir Khan.
