    Amitabh Bachchan was in the National Capital yesterday to receive the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Award for his contribution to Indian cinema. The actor has been active in the industry for half a century in the industry and needless to say, he has made some unparallel contribution. He received the award from the President of India, Ramnath Kovind, on 29th December. His wife Jaya Bachchan and son Abhishek Bachchan accompanied him as he received the highest film honour.

    When he was given the award, Amitabh Bachchan said, “Jab iss puruskar ki ghoshna hui to mere mann mein ek sandeh utha. Ki kya kahin ye sanket hai mere liye ki bhai sahab aapne bahut kaam kar liya, ab ghar baith ke aaram kar lijiye. Kyunki abhi bhi thoda kaam baki hai jise mujhe poora karna hai.”

    Amitabh Bachchan also took to his blog to share his thoughts and wrote:

    “There are times in the life of us all when we assimilate without any assimilation of the times past and gone by... when the years strike back at you and you wonder whether are you really the eldest in the gathering then a sudden temperament invades the being and there is a silent thought that wishes for us all to do for them that have none ... these pictures say it all .. I am in pride for the recognition .. I am in pride for the recognition of my profession .. I am in pride of my Country and my Film Industry 

    Amitabh Bachchan was to receive the award during the National Film Award celebration but had tweeted that he would not be able to attend it due to it due to his deteriorating heath.  It was then that Prakash Javedkar, who is the Information and Broadcast Minister of India, announced that the award would be conferred to him on Sunday.
