Article 15 director Anubhav Sinha has been vocal in condemning the recent attack on Jawaharlal Nehru University students and professors by a masked mob and on Monday even joined peaceful protesters on Carter Road, Mumbai against the violence. The filmmaker has been posting constantly on Twitter commenting and retweeting his disapproval of the incident at JNU and in one such tweet he pointed out how Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan had spoken about the growing intolerance in the country nearly 5 years ago.

Anubhav wrote on Twitter, 'Do you remember five years back two superstars of India used a word that they were condemned for and NO ONE stood up for them? NO ONE. The stars were Shah Rukh and Aamir. The word was INTOLERANCE and they were so damn right......'

In 2015 Shah Rukh Khan had received flak for commenting on the artists returning awards when he said he respected them. The artists were protesting against growing religious intolerance and the death of a man who was killed over suspicion of consuming beef.

Shah Rukh had in an interview with NDTV said, “It is stupid to be intolerant and this is our biggest issue, not just an issue… Religious intolerance and not being secular in this country is the worst kind of crime that you can do as a patriot."

Aamir Khan had in the same year commented on the same issue of artists returning awards and growing number of incidents of religious intolerance and had said, “As an individual, as part of this country as a citizen, we read in the papers what is happening, we see it on the news and certainly, I have been alarmed. I can’t deny. I have been alarmed by a number of incidents.”

The Bollywood star had added, “When I chat with Kiran at home, she says ‘Should we move out of India?’ That’s a disastrous and big statement for Kiran to make. She fears for her child. She fears about what the atmosphere around us will be. She feels scared to open the newspapers every day.”

Again, Aamir’s statement had stirred a huge controversy. While both Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan remain silent on the on-going CAA protests, Anubhav Sinha can’t help but recall how these two superstars were right in their statements and how no one came out to support them back then.
