    Filmmaker Anurag Basu has opened up about his struggle with Leukemia and revealed that his doctors after diagnosis had told him that he had few weeks at max to live. Recalling this difficult period of his personal history the Ludo filmmaker said that his battle with cancer also took a toll on his family.

    Talking to Mid-Day, Anurag Basu revealed how after his diagnosis in 2004 soon after Murder’s release he was losing blood by buckets due to internal bleeding and was put on a ventilator for 17 days after being admitted to the hospital. He felt he would die while being moved from one hospital to another much like a scene featuring Nafisa Ali's character in his film Life In A Metro who died in the ambulance.

    Anurag Basu took years to recover and his career also took a hit and he had to return to television to ensure he had financial backing. "There were hospital bills to recover, with treatment in the ICU that had gone on for really long. There was a survival issue, with regard to money. I went to my old television colleagues at Zee and Sony, and they gave me shows to do. I had no film. So, it was back to square one. I did television for over a year," the filmmaker told the publication.

    The filmmaker also relived how he worked on completing Emraan Hashmi and Dia Mirza starrer Tumsa Nahi Dekha even while he was battling life and death in the hospital and recorded instructions on a dictaphone so that the shoot could continue.

    Anurag finally found a foothold again when he bagged Gangster with Vishesh Films that marked the debut of Kangana Ranaut and he continued with the production house to make Life In A Metro.
