    Anurag Basu Was The First Few People To Know About Rishi Kapoor's Cancer Diagnosis, Reveals Ranbir Contacted Him

    Filmmaker Anurag Basu who has worked with Ranbir Kapoor on Jagga Jasoos and Barfi has revealed over a month  after Rishi Kapoor’s death that he was one of the first few people to know about Rishi Kapoor’s cancer diagnosis.

    Anurag Basu who has been a cancer survivor himself was contacted by Ranbir Kapoor and he guided him with details of his doctor and what to do next. In an interview with Mumbai Mirror Anurag revealed, “I was among the first few to know. We discussed what line of treatment he should take. I shared the number of my doctor with him and they spoke to him and told me what they had decided.”

    The director’s battled promyelocytic leukemia in 2004 and was told by the doctor’s he had only two months to live. Anurag and his wife were then expecting their first baby and she was seven months pregnant. He began his battle with cancer with short term goals his first aim begin to be able to see his baby.

    Rishi Kapoor was battling leukemia and spent a year in New York for treatment. He returned to India in 2019 after he was declared cancer free. The veteran actor passed away on April 30 in Mumbai.

    Anurag Basu also spoke about the late actor and his chemistry with his wife Neetu Kapoor. The filmmaker said,  “Neetuji spoke about the treatment, Chintuji, like always, was in his element, trying to dig into the cake. Since he was not allowed to have sweets, Neetuji tried to keep him away and this led to a fight between them. It was very cute.

    The filmmaker also remembered Irrfan Khan who also passed away last year and said, “I know I’ll make Metro again, I just wish I could have made it with Irrfan, too.”
