Anurag Kashyap On Working With Abhay Deol: “It Was Painfully Difficult…He Also Felt Betrayed By Me”

Abhay Deol has been one of those actors who decided to venture into the offbeat genre and bring it to the forefront. He has given the industry some of the most unforgettable films including Manorama: Six Feet Under, Oye Lucky Lucky Oye, Dev D and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. But his run in the industry didn’t last as long as the other Deols. Despite some great work, he soon vanished from the scenario. He did appear in a few films in between, but it had been more sporadic. Now, his Dev D director, Anurag Kashyap opened up about him.

The director, who had recently made another OTT film, Choked, that released on Netflix this Friday, said that it was painfully difficult to work with Abhay Deol. He said, “It was painfully difficult to work with him. I don’t really have great working memories with him. And haven’t talked to him much since I finished shooting. He wanted to do artistic movies but also wanted the mainstream benefits. The benefits and luxuries of being a ‘Deol’. He would stay in a five-star hotel while the entire crew stayed in Paharganj for a film that was made on a very tight budget. Also the reason a lot of his directors went away from him.”

Anurag also added that Abhay had gone on to bad mouth the crew after the shoot was done and wasn’t even present during the promotions. He added, “He wasn’t there to promote Dev D. He dissed the film and crew a lot. He also felt betrayed by me about which he has never spoken to me ever.”

Abhay recently had a Netflix release too- What Are The Odds. He had also grabbed headlines for pointing out that celebs promote fairness cream and support Black Lives Matter Movement and it only reveals their hypocrisy.
