Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani starrer Kabir Singh became the 2nd highest grossing film of 2019 and the actors were also praised for their powerful performances. However, the romantic drama received mixed reviews and also faced backlash for apparently glamorizing ‘misogyny and toxic masculinity’. Later in an interview with Anupama Chopra, director Sandeep Vanga had defended the film and stated, “If you can’t slap, if you can’t touch your woman wherever you want, if you can’t kiss, I don’t see emotion there.”

Actor Arjan Bajwa, who played the role of Shahid’s brother in the film, recently opened up about the same and called it a long debate. He shared that it was just a film, meant to be watched as a film and there was no need to delve into it so much. He further stated, “It was not something you had to make such a hue and cry about or needed to quote the Director on or get Shahid (Kapoor) into a controversy.”

However, he went on to say that in the end it’s the audiences’ decision and they loved it. Talking about the film’s business, Arjan also said that if there was something wrong with the story of Kabir Singh then people would not have liked it so much and it would not have made over 250 crore at the box office.

Coming to the director’s statement, Arjan said it was too much of reading between the lines and a mountain was made out of a molehill. He shared that Sandeep had said it in a very different context but it ended up as a game of ‘Chinese whisper’ where the original statement was portrayed in another way. He concluded by saying, “I think, people should take it lightly, just take it as a film and not take it seriously. There are too many things in life that are already taken seriously.”
