Ayushmann Khurrana On Losing Out Of Udta Punjab To Diljit Dosanjh: “I Was Heartbroken”!

It would be known to many by now that Ayushmann Khurrana was the first choice to play the young Punjabi cop in Udta Punjab. The makers of the film had approached the National Award winning actor then, but unfortunately, he could not give his dates to the film. It then went to Punjabi singer an actor Diljit Dosanjh and he debuted into the Hindi film industry with a dhamakedaar performance in this controversial but critically acclaimed film. Ayushmann, who is now considered as one of the most bankable actors with 7 hits straight and has a knack for films that make a difference in the society, has recently opened up once again as to how he felt about Udta Punjab.

During Rajeev Masand’s roundtable of the year, the critic praised the actor at the choice of films. It was during this time that he revealed that he was to be a part of Udta Punjab but was dropped. He said,

"I was supposed to do that film... Udta Punjab... Diljit's character. Suddenly mujhe call aaya ki tum nahi kar rahe, so I was heartbroken."

Well, that is quite a revelation. When the news had been doing the rounds in 2015, he had said that he could not give his dates to the film and the rumours were that he did not want to be a part of a multi-starrer film. In fact, a report in India Today stated, “I didn't do Udta Punjab because our dates were not matching. I had given prior commitments to my films 1911 and Hamara Bajaj, and so the dates were clashing. It was getting difficult for me to work in all the films together, and this is the only reason I didn't do that project. Besides, I'm open to multi-starrer films.”
